Veibmeld is the culmination of a series of musical projects by British producer/ musicians Jason Brown and Jools Slater (aka Phantom Drum & Whitenoise) who fuse together indie rock, dance music and electronica with hiphop and nu-jazz to create a sound heavily influenced, not only by the French House Music scene, such as Ludovic Navarre's work with St Germaine and Italian producers like Cesare Collina of The Black Mighty Orchestra, but also the Foo Fighters for example. |

| Previously, in 2005 and 2006 they had been working with a downtempo outfit called The Projects, but after their split in 2007 they both decided to concentrate on traditional songwriting to give the music a more 'narrative' focus rather than just a groove. The entire back-catalogue of music destined for an album of Project's music had to be shelved due to the breakdown of the band, however many of the tunes continue to be played on radio and webcasts across the world. The Café Del Mar style 'Past Perfect' having gained cult status in the US and Europe, with its lush arrangement and Edouard Labor tinged flute solos. |

After the Projects folded, Slater collaborated with Dorset based producer Emu (aka Dan Palmer) on some live performance recordings featuring flute and vocals whilst Brown continued his own production work and live performances under the Phantom Drum flag. Meanwhile, Project's bassist Chris Harland had joined forces with jazz keyboard player Matthew Linley from the downtempo production outfit Masters of Chill and, along with music graduate Laurie Ralph on drums, they came together briefly to create a rock band called the Green Tape Project with North Eastern guitarist Jimbo. Brown and Slater had started working with an established west coast guitarist and songwriter Phil Hollings and eventually these two ventures merged to form the current band, featuring the vocals of Emily Gohl. |
| The band's name is taken from a completely random selection of Alphabetti Spaghetti which ended up on Jools' toast one mealtime. Yum yum |
